Big Brother

Download word art here

It's that time of year again!  I'm pretty sure I've shared the B-Side Blog with you before, but I'm sharing again because I just love her sense of humor!

I think my favorite photocap this week was the "Must...run...faster"!

What do you think?

Not Good!

Download word art here

Remembering at 5:15 that you are supposed to be watching a required webinar from 5-6 is not good.

Joining the webinar in progress to learn that the person responsible for the presentation is in a hotel room and using more bandwidth than they're allowed is even worse.  lol!

She's supposed to record the webinar and email the link to everyone involved so that we can watch it without interuption before our workshop in July.

You know, I was all excited about this workshop when I first signed up, but now....not so much!

I had a tough decision to make today and I made it.  I'm pretty sure that for me, right now, it was the right decidsion to make but I'm still pretty bummed.

Dear Los Angeles...

Download word art here

Dear Los Angeles,

I know that you have lots of good things going for you. You’re the City of Angels. You have beaches and ports and famous people everywhere. We have those things too. We have them without the smog.

You have very few rainy days where we have a very prominent rainy season.

You have Chinatown. We have Calle Ocho.

You have Venice Beach. We have South Beach.

You have restaurants that are known for the fabulous food. So do we.

You have the hills. We have the everglades.

You have The Lakers and we have The Miami Heat.

I remember reading somewhere that the city of Los Angeles moves one-quarter of an inch to the east every year. If that’s true, then even you are trying to come to the East Coast.

We have a lot in common and yet we are so very different.

I think that the very worst thing about you is that, even with your gradual move east, you’re over 2700 miles away from Miami Beach

This is the worst thing, in my opinion, because my little buddy Sebastian and his mom are leaving Florida and moving to Los Angeles. I know that I should be happy for them. They’re moving to a new place and getting a new start, but I’m not happy because I’m selfish. I am selfish and I don’t want them to go.

Even if I don’t see them often, I like knowing that they are here. Miami is better with them here. I am better with them here. He’s the kid that makes you want to be better. A better teacher, a better person, a better anything and everything, because he is better.

He’s the kid who is so inspirational that thousands of people from all over the world have fallen in love with him. They send cards when he’s in the hospital and still email me daily asking for updates.

The kid who reminds you to “just be nice”. The kid who has faced more in his seven years on Earth than most of us would or even could face in a hundred years…a thousand years. The kid who relishes the things he can do and gives little thought to the things he can’t . The kid who deserves the world, but would never think of asking for it.

His mother is no less inspirational. She made Sebastian.

She gave birth to him and taught him right from wrong. On the many days, especially when he was younger, that her life would have been made easier by simply doing things for him she chose not to. Instead of coddling him she blessed him with a sense of independence and pride. She is the reason he has overcome so much. She is the reason he will continue to overcome the many obstacles that he will face.

Los Angeles, you are about to become better. We are sending you two of the best that we have. Take them in. Welcome them. I mean, there doesn’t have to be a ticker tape parade or a presentation where you give them a key to the city or anything like that. Although, that would be really cool if you could arrange it. Just don’t let them fall between the cracks. Don’t disappoint them. Don’t let them become like so many others who have moved there in search of a better life only to be heartbroken.

You are lucky, Los Angeles. You are lucky and I pray that you prove worthy.

If you live in the Los Angeles area or know someone who does, please feel free to share this post.  Maybe you'll see them and can welcome them to the west coast. If you do happen to see Sebastian and his mom when they are out and about in LA tell them Ms. Brown says hi and that Miami misses them.

I love summer!

Download word art here

So, Friday night Lonely Girl and I hung out in this tiny little tourist area south of Miami called Cauley Square listening to a band that played classic rock music.  Lonely Girl was in rare form and somehow managed to convince the band that it was her birthday and got them to play a special song for her and then continue to give her shout outs for the rest of the night.  It was so much fun!

On Saturday, I went to a local car museum with my photography group.  It was awesome!  Hopefully, I got some great shots.  Sadly, I haven't even looked at them yet.  lol!  I still haven't found the time to check out my photos from the tattoo convention yet either.  It's summer and I'm not sure where all my time is going, but it sure is going fast.

Sunday was all about Orange Croc Guy.  He held me hostage for most of the day doing Orange Croc Guy kind of things and reminding me that I still owe him a homecooked dinner.  He has no idea that the oven is fixed and in great working order and I have no plans to tell him anytime soon.

OCG will be heading to New Jersey next week and will be gone until sometime in August.  I wonder if he'll still believe the oven is broken in August?  lol!

The highlight of my Monday was running to the Post Office to mail a package.  Seriously!  I woke up around 9:30 grabbed some breakfast and headed out to run my errands.  I was back home in just a couple of hours and I'm not sure what happened to the rest of the day cause when I looked at the clock it was suddenly 9:30 PM and I was starting to think about going to bed again.  lol!

Life on summer vacation is good!

Don't call me Shirley!

Download word art here

I've got an older neighbor that thinks my name is Shirley.  I'm not sure how I introduced myself as Ginger and he heard Shirley, but he did.  He's very friendly and every time he sees me he says something like, "Hi Miss Shirley" or "It's good to see you Miss Shirley"  or "How are things going Miss Shirley"

He's a sweet guy and not someone who would call me the wrong name on purpose, but here's the problem---Like I said, he's older and so I don't always understand what he's saying, so by the time I figured out he was calling me "Shirley" it felt like too much time had passed to correct him.  So, the guy still thinks my name is Shirley.

Tonight, OCG and I were headed out for a walk and we pass the older neighbor who waves and says, "Hi Miss Shirley."  I said hi  back and we walked off, but OCG was very confused because it was the first time he had heard the exchange.

OCG:  What did he call you?
ME:  Shirley
OCG: Why?
ME: He thinks that's my name
OCG: Did you tell him your name was Shirley?
ME:  Nope
OCG: Why don't you tell him your real name?
ME:  I don't want to embarrass him.
OCG:  Don't you think it's going to be worse as more time passes and he continues to call you the wrong name before he finds out.
ME:  Nope
OCG: How is that possible?
ME:  Because I don't plan on ever telling him.
OCG: Why?
ME:  I told you. I don't want to embarrass him!

Wasn't there a Seinfeld episode about this?  Does anyone remember it?  How did it end?

Blame it on the oven!

Download word art here

So, the other day Orange Croc Guy was playing handyman and rehanging the curtains that I tried to hang all by myself only to have them fall on my head at night while I was sleeping.

He decided that I actually needed to cook a meal to repay him.  I'm not sure why he thought he needed to be punished though.  lol!

Well, Sunday night was out because we had plans and so was Monday night because I had plans.  So, Tuesday night I cooked dinner.  (That's tonight, but it will probably be last night by the time I get this typed up and posted ~ we'll blame the glasses for that, but I'll save that story for another post.)

I decided to make this chicken cheese thing that's not too hard and is something that I can actually kind of cook without having to worry about looking up the number for the CDC or the poison hotline.  Plus, you just kind of mix it together and put it in the oven so it's pretty simple.

Well, I did my best Julia Child imitation and got everything placed into the oven and went about my business.  It wasn't until I was ready to open up a box of something and a can of something else to use as  side dishes that I realized that while the chicken should be almost done cooking I couldn't smell it at all.

I checked the oven and it was cold.  I had turned it on and the little red oven light was shining as proof that I had turned it on, but it just never warmed up.  Apparently, the heating element had burned out.

OCG just couldn't understand how I didn't know that the oven wasn't working.  I explained that it had worked the last time I used it, but I really couldn't remember when that was.  lol!

We ordered pizza!

Seriously,  I could use some good thoughts and prayers if you have any to spare.

One of those nights...

Download word art here

You know those nights when you go out expecting to have a great time and then end up wishing you had stayed home?  Well, that was Sunday night for me!

Lonely Girl and I were meeting up with the Miami Beach Photography Club to get some sunset shots around 7 PM.  I picked her up and we were on our way!

As I drove she told me about someone that she had gone out with who at the end of the night explained that he thought he was going to get back with his ex girlfriend and said that he would call her when he wanted to see her again.

UGH!  Right?

Well, Lonely Girl is WAY nicer than I am.  She said that she simply replied, "Ok, fine."  She said that knowing that she had no intention of ever answering another call from him.

I let it be know that those are not the words I would have replied with.  I would have used way more words and they all would have been four letter words!  The dude would have known better than to even think about calling me again!

Poor, Lonely Girl!

We meet up with our friends at South Pointe Park and some people who were joining us for the first time.  There was a nice turn out.  Too bad the sun didn't want to be seen!

Anyway, have you ever met someone and immediately felt creeped out?  I know we're supposed to be nice to everyone ~ But, sometimes that hard to do!

There was a guy there that had never joined us before.  He was using his cell phone to take pictures.  Which is ok because cell phones take pretty good pictures these days.  The only problem was that the only pictures he was interested in taking were on Lonely Girl and myself.  There were at least three times that we didn't even realize he was taking our pictures until one of us moved and he would comment about how we weren't very good models.

All I can think about are how many other photos he took that we knew nothing about.  GROSS!

Before anyone has even thought about packing up and calling it a night he was running around trying to talk everyone into going for a beer.  Not a bad idea and something we do quite often after taking photos.  But, this guy didn't want to let it drop and even though we ended up standing right in front of Monty's by the water with a view he wanted to go to Big Pink.

Don't get me wrong!  I love Big Pink!  They deliver!  lol!

I've heard people call the place "Pinks" for short , but I have never heard anyone call it "The Pink" which was what he insisted on calling it.  DISTURBING!

Well, a little rain started to fall.  It actually didn't last long, but people used it as a reason to pack up the camera and the weird guy used it as an excuse to once again bring up going to "The Pink".  UGH!

Again, don't get me wrong, I was all for getting a beer!  However, I was more interested in going somewhere with the people I knew and the peole I knew weren't going anywhere with this weird dude!

Except for Lonely Girl!

Weird dude said it would be best to walk along the street.  I tried to get Lonely Girl to come with me along the beach walk.  She didn't pick up on what I was trying to do and instead agreed with the weird dude and started walking away with him.  I had no choice but to follow.

I followed ~ several staps behind ~ hoping Lonely Girl would slow down so that I could talk to her.  She didn't.  Instead she walked faster than I have ever seen her walk.  I tried once again to get her to cut back to the beach walk with me, but once again she agreed with Weird Dud and kept going.

I was growing frustrated, but what could I do?

Finally, I was able to have a conversation with Lonely Girl about Weird Dude without anyone hearing and she was shocked.  She had no idea what I had been trying to do and hadn't yet picked up on the creepy vibes Weird Dude was sending out.

She asked, "Isn't everyone coming?"  I answered, "No they're not coming and this guy is really weird!"

At that point, we were kind of committed and figured we would be safe in a restaurant and if nothing else, we would have a funny story to tell.

We got to Big Pinks after the others had already been seated.  Of course, the only seats left were at the end of the table with Weird Dude.  I took the seat across from him cause I wasn't about to sit next to him.  lol!  Lonely Girl had gone to the restroom before coming to the table so she was forced to sit next to Weird Dude when she returned.

Apparently, as she sat down he made some comment about the three of us having a private party after it was over.  Luckily, I didn't hear him!  Lonely Girl suddenly realized why I had been saying the guy was weird and gave him a look that let him know that was never going to happen.  He apologized pretty fast and said that sometimes people didn't get his jokes.  Ya think!

Then, the dude who had done nothing all night but try and talk people into going for a beer ordered water because he doesn't drink.

He made several more creepy comments and asked us questions that we barely answered and we kept ourselves busy talking to the other people at the table.  Even though we didn't know them, they were all really nice and not even a little bit creepy!

At one point we were all talking about our favorite places to go and take photographs and the places we would like to go when Weird Dude announced that he wasn't really into photography.  WHAT?!?!

I swear, I think the guy showed up just hoping to pick someone up and that made Lonely Girl and I even more creeped out by the things he had said and knowing that he had pictures of us on his phone.

It was a long night!

Our waitress was pretty bad too and that made the night even longer.  Once, we were finally away from Weird Dude all we could do was laugh.  What else are you going to do, right?

Anyway, I don't have many good pictures to share, but here are a couple...

My Dad by The Kit Cart

Download word art here
OK, you guys won't believe all the cute kits The Kit Cart has released lately or how far behind I am in telling you about them thanks to a certain computer that seems to have a mind of it's own lately.

(I have to watch what I say about the comuter!  I'm afraid it might completely rebel the way my car did!)

Anyway, I've got some serious catching up to do and since Father's Day is right around the corner, I wanted to start with the kit My Dad...

This kit has 31 papers, 113 elements and an alpha.  There are so many elements that it doesn't matter what your dad's hobby is...cause there's probably something in here for you to scrap it.

Heck, it doesn't even have to be used for your dad!  It's great for any guy layout!  Here's mine...

Right now My Dad is on sale for $2.00 so grab it while you can!
