"Ginger, you're going to have to talk louder! It's crazy around here and I can't hear you." Hal screamed into the phone.

"I said that I'm still in Seattle and have nothing new to report. I haven't been able to locate anyone else."

"Does this mean that you're going to be gone for a while longer?"

"Yes, I'm not sure when I'll be home yet. I need to give it another week or so then I'll be back."

"Take as much time as you need. Ginger, I can't tell you how great business has been since you started all of this. I'm thinking of buying out the place next door and expanding the bar."

I looked out at the rain and rolled my eyes. Even Hal's life improves when I'm not around. I really am a loser.

"That's great, Hal. I'm really happy for you."

"Listen, I'm swamped right now and can't get out of the kitchen so I'm going to transfer you to the girls out front. I know they are dying to talk to you."

"Thanks, Hal. Try not to work too hard."

"Are you kidding? I’m loving this! Listen, take care of yourself. We miss you around here."

I couldn't help but smile as I listened to the series of clicks that meant I was being put on hold until my friends could pick up the line in the restaurant. Hal's business was booming, but he still missed me.

Knowing that my friends care about me and miss me should be enough to make me happy. I should tell them that I'm coming home, but I don't know if I'll have the courage to say the words.
