The day Ginger Snapped part 27

“So, what happened after you left the diner?” Brent begged me to tell him.

“Quit trying to change the subject!” I yelled into the phone. “My life is a YouTube joke because of you and your blog.”

I could hear Brent laughing and I wanted to smack him. It’s a good thing we were on opposite ends of the country or I probably would have.

“Ginger, have you actually watched any of the videos? They’re great and the girl who plays you is pretty cute.”

“Are you kidding me? Is that supposed to make it alright?”

“Ginger, you’re kind of famous now. It’s only natural that people would do something like that. Enjoy the laugh while it lasts. Pretty soon someone will post a new video of their cat or their kid or their drunk uncle and everyone will forget about you.” Brent said trying to calm me down.

“Well, if you’ve got an uncle, please get him drunk and video everything he does because I’m ready for people to forget about me.”

“I’ll do that, just for you. Hey, did I tell you that Alden called the bar the other day?”

My heart stood still for a moment, but I tried to sound cool when I answered. “No, I was so busy yelling about YouTube that I don’t think I’ve given you time to tell me anything. What did he want when he called.”

“Girl, I think that guy has got it bad for you! Did you really leave New York without telling him good-bye?”

I took a deep breath and tried to sound casual. “I didn’t realize I had to tell him good-bye. Besides, coming to California was a last minute decision and I didn’t know where he was and I was afraid of missing my plane.”

“Mmmm…and is there a reason that you haven’t answered or returned his calls?”

Yes, there’s a reason! He’s amazing and I like him and I’m afraid to let him know because I don’t want him to leave the way every other man in my life has.

“I don’t know. I mean I’ve been busy. I got a message from him, but I didn’t know what to say and I had to take that bus tour and…”

Cutting me off, Brent said, “Ginger, just call the man.” There were several moments of silence that Brent broke by asking if I was still there.

“I’m here, but heading up to northern California tomorrow. I’ve got another ex who is apparently living somewhere in the middle of no where.”

“What about Jeremy? You still haven’t told me what happened after you left the diner.”

“Nothing happened. He drove me to my hotel and I got out of the car. He wished me luck and I did the same to him.”

“So, where does his tally mark go?” Brent urged.

“He’s happy and sane so I say he gets a tally on the winner side of the board.”

“Ouch, I’m sorry.”

“Thanks, but don’t be sorry. He really is a nice guy.”

“Yea, but that means you’ve got one more winner than you have losers and no one is getting a free drink this week.”

“Brent, some things in life are more important than free drinks.”

“Who are you and what have you done with my friend? She knows that nothing is more important than free drinks!”

I laughed and told Brent to give everyone a hug for me before hanging up and going to bed.
